I want to share with you a project that a friend and I worked on between October 2011 and Christmas 2013.
We wanted to have some audio fun with a dedicated sound car; Sound Quality competition is fun in your daily driver but real louds take space. This Holden Camira cost us two cartons of beer, with a fresh 285,000km on the clock – it was a 1987 JE SLE, so it had all of the “options” – 2.0 MPFI, 5 speed manual, power windows, antenna, mirrors, central locking, full instrumentation, air conditioning – the lot.
What we turned it into was a 155.7dB groundpounder with around 10,000 watts of amplification, 650 amp-hours of deep cycle battery storage, two 18″ subwoofers, four 10″ fronts and two horn tweeters. The little bus took us all over SA and even over to Victoria on several occasions for sound offs. It was even a daily driver when I was working on my own car. Here’s some photos of it in it’s prime, I’m looking forward to sharing it’s blow-by-blow build with you guys
