This 1968 Camaro is no stranger to the South Australian show and shine scene, as a beautifully restored original-style example.
Al wanted to add an audio system without modification to the vehicle, and in-line with historic registration guidelines. A Kenwood multimedia unit was fitted to the original glove box, DLS 225 two-way speakers in the front kick panels, and 226 two-way speakers in the rear shelf.
The original kick panels were cleaned up from a previous speaker installation, and baffles made and upholstered in black vinyl for a solid mount. The rear reproduction parcel shelf, being thin board, was laminated with an MDF panel and closed cell foam to reduce flex and rattles.
The result is a punchy system which can be controlled from the driver’s seat with the Kenwood’s IR remote, with modern USB, Ipod and AM/FM functionality in this classic muscle car.
