Exciting developments are underway in South Australia, with the rules surrounding historic registration of classic cars set to change dramatically from July 1, 2017.
The current Conditional Registration Scheme provides for the registration of classic cars under a “$90 for 90 days” structure, where classics are able to be driven periodically without paying a full registration fee. But the scheme only covers completely original cars, where simple modifications and enhancements are difficult – most are ruled out completely.
Changes will allow for vehicles over 30 years of age to join the scheme even if they’re modified – paving the way for South Australian enthusiasts and businesses to benefit.
More Great Customised Classics On The Road!
Those who have been limited in creating their dream restoration or performance machine will find this as most welcome news, with opportunity being opened up to have a customised weekender or registered show car with much lower ongoing registration costs than previously.
We feel this will create opportunity for SA builders and enthusiasts to create more of the amazing customised machines we’re used to seeing from overseas. With the talent among many of South Australia’s automotive businesses, there’s definitely the skill here to make it happen.
Where Does AV-DC Fit?
AV-DC is seeking to be part of these builds from square one, with a modern approach to classic restoration and customisation. Our aim is always to work with the aesthetic of the vehicle and the requirements of the owner to create outstanding interior and sound upgrades. We accomplish this every day with modern cars, but the scope to make something special with a classic car is even better. We seek to meet owners who are embarking on a restoration or upgrade, to discuss what’s possible with their car and the outcomes they’re after.
Really? Show Me!
Here’s examples of what we can do with classic cars. They’re by no means exhaustive, but they show what our customers have gone for in the past, and what we could start with on your classic.
A full writeup on this announcement is available on AdelaideNow’s website. On a personal note, we’re thankful to all car club members, committees, enthusiats, media representatives and members of parliament who have had a hand in proposing, drafting and reviewing these changes.
